This summer will boast a series of new camps for in the “Triple A line up” from the Moorestown Department of Parks and Recreation — Arts, Athletics and Activities. This summer, the department is preparing for a full complement of offerings. Beginning in June and running through the end of August, Moorestown youth will have their choice of athletics and activities to choose from.

After a successful first two seasons, the Teen Theater Camp will host tryouts on Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6. This summer, the Department of Parks and Recreation and MoorArts present “Little Shop of Horrors.” This new collaborative program for teens and young adults ages 14 to 23 years is directed by Sarah Dugan as well as vocalist coach Mandy Milne. Participants will delve into the craft of musical theater by focusing on character development, acting technique, vocal technique, movement and conditioning and theater history.

The last week in June, younger children ages 5–12 will have the opportunity to enjoy the Introduction to Tennis camp with George Crouse at the Jeff Young Tennis Courts. From June 26–29, children with any level of experience are welcome as Crouse, an elite certified professional of the USPTA, provides instruction.

Additionally, the Recreation Summer Basketball is back. Summer league will play on the outdoor courts at Maple Dawson Park under the lights. For boys and girls in grades 3–8, the league will be five weeks with guaranteed eight games per team. Games will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights with most weeks having two games per night. Volunteer coaches are needed.

Later in July, from July 17 — July 20, the department will offer the Volleyball Youth Summer Camp. Boys and girls in grades 5–8 are invited to join John Grossman at the Church Street Recreation Center from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Children with all levels of experience are welcome to work on fundamentals and techniques. The following week, volleyball will be taken outside to the sand courts at Jeff Young Park for the Sand Volleyball Advanced Camp. Youth in grades 7–12 will be invited to play true sand volleyball in a competitive forum and learn advanced skills.

The Culinary Arts will be in full swing as well. Young people can choose from an early summer or late summer offering of both the Baking Camp and the Culinary Camp. Each session will offer the same projects, but with a choice of timing. The Break Baking Camp will teach beginning baking from scratch and teach children how to make homemade pretzels, muffins, dinner rolls and pies. The Culinary Camp will teach comfort food basics like fried chicken, mac and cheese, corn bread, homemade tortillas and fajitas spice chicken. With a choice of June 26–29 or Aug. 21–24, aspiring chefs will have the opportunity to treat friends and family to delicious dishes.

The Summer Soccer Camp is the perfect fit for any child grades K-4 who wants to pick up the sport of soccer. In the ever-competitive sports world, children who decide to take up a new sport are often intimidated by a large team setting. The Summer Soccer Camp offers an introduction to this international game so that children can feel comfortable moving to a competitive level. Three Lions Soccer Academy instructors will lead this annual favorite.

August plays host to the Recreation Art Camp for grade K-4 in a week of workshop lessons involving a wide array of mediums including science art, arts and crafts, painting, drawing and 3D sculptural art. Participants will create age-appropriate art projects designed to promote their inner creativity. From Monday, August 14 to Friday, August 18, participants will create their own masterpieces.

In August, the ever-popular Summer Sports Clinic will run from August 7–11 for boys and girls ages 5–7 and August 14–18 for boys and girls ages 8–12. The fundamental skills of multiple sports will be covered to include soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, basketball and flag football. This camp is the perfect place for any child wanting to learn the basics of a new sport in a teaching environment.
