Jenny Hudock was named Gloucester County recipient of the 2017 “School Nurses Who Make a Difference” award.
Washington Township High School nurse Jenny Hudock has been named as the Gloucester County recipient of the 2017 “School Nurses Who Make a Difference Award” by the New Jersey State School Nurses Association. She will be honored at the NJSSNA dinner meeting on May 16 in South Brunswick.
The recognition comes in advance of National Nurses Week, May 6–12, and validates the positive connections that Hudock routinely forms with students, parents and staff, her expansive medical knowledge, her professionalism and her caring nature.
An employee of the district since 2007, Hudock served as the school nurse at Orchard Valley Middle School before transferring to the high school in 2012. She earned her registered nurse degree from St. Agnes Medical Center in Philadelphia in 1987. She also holds a bachelor of arts degree and certification in school nursing from Rowan University. She has worked as a registered nurse for 30 years, 22 years in the school setting, and has served as a CPR instructor for 26 years. She also worked part-time for two years as a forensic nurse and is certified to deal with sexual assault cases.
“Jenny Hudock is very knowledgeable and approaches her work with the utmost professionalism” said Whitman Elementary School nurse Carol Ann Wesh, who nominated Hudock for the recognition. “As a high school nurse, she has seen and dealt calmly and capably with many emergency situations. She is a prime example of a very talented, professional and active school nurse who shares her love for healthy living with her co-workers and students.”
In addition to her work with the WTHS students and staff, Hudock has obtained three grants including the 2009 ING Rub for Something Better grant, the 2010 Medtronic Be the Beat mini-grant and a 2016 grant that helped secure iPads for each of the district’s 12 nurses. She also has turn-keyed the medical documentation program, Health Office Anywhere, to her colleagues. Hudock routinely serves as a mentor to student nurses from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
An avid swimmer, bicyclist and runner, Hudock has participated in several triathlons and has been a member of “Teachers with Pedals,” the Washington Township-based team that raises monies for the MS Society through the annual City to Shore Bike Ride.
“The high school community is grateful for the dedication of our school nurses,” WTHS Principal Ann Moore said. “We congratulate Mrs. Hudock for this well-deserved recognition, and we thank her for making the needs of our students her top priority.”
