Do Something: Earth Day celebrations taking place this weekend

Runners can participate in a half marathon in Atlantic City or run for a good cause Lung Love Run/Walk in Philadelphia.

Earth Day falls on Saturday and a number of towns are hosting events to celebrate the environment and everything green. Don’t have any plans yet this weekend? Check out this list of events taking place around the area.

In Cherry Hill

  • Parents and children can enjoy a fun afternoon at the Cherry Hill Public Library on Sunday. The library will host its special needs meet up from 3 to 4 p.m. in the children’s area on the upper level. The meet up allows parents and children with special needs to meet and socialize. Around South Jersey

  • Sustainable Haddonfield is hosting its free Earth Day celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Kings Court. Community members can enjoy green festivities, as well as offerings from local merchants and vendors from the Haddonfield Farmer’s Market. There will also be live music, a landscaped parklet on the street, electric car and motorcycle displays, organic foods, eco-friendly demonstrations and other attractions.   • In Medford, the Mad Hatter and Queen of Hearts will be visiting the Friends Meeting House at 10 Union Street, for a special tea event on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Mad Hatter Tea event is a fundraiser to support the Pinelands Garden Club’s Butterfly Garden and Preserve. At the Jersey Shore

  • The annual April Fools Half Marathon will take place along the Jersey Shore on Sunday. The race will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at Resorts Hotel and Casino. The race heads south into Ventnor, Margate and Longport before looping back to Atlantic City for the finish. Runners can register for the race at multiple locations on Saturday.   • On Sunday, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority will be hosting its annual Earth Day Festival at its complex, 6700 Delilah Road, in Egg Harbor Twp. The event includes a number of activities and exhibits, vendors, crafters, entertainment and more. The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. There is no cost to attend. In Philadelphia

  • The fourth annual Lung Love Run/Walk Philadelphia will take place on Saturday from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Philadelphia Zoo. This family friendly 5k allows community members to show support and provide hope to the local lung cancer community. All proceeds benefit the Lung Cancer Alliance.   • This weekend is the final chance for guests to check out “Jurassic World: The Exhibition” at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. The special exhibit will close in Philadelphia on Sunday and includes a number of life-like dinosaurs, including a T-Rex, 24-foot tall Brachiosaurus, stegosaurus and more. The exhibition is included with admission to the museum. General admission prices until 5 p.m. are $34.95 for adults and $29.95 for children, with discounted prices in the evening.
