Letter to the Editor: Dorothy Mansdoerfer

Have you noticed? We’re currently witnessing a transformation in progress to the Upper Basin of Strawbridge Lake.

The cleanup started last year with the removal of the spatterdock from the lake by Princeton Hydro, an outside contractor. The spatterdock was so thick it covered entire sections of the Upper Basin.

As part of the Adopt-A-Lakefront program started by the township last year, the Strawbridge Lake Beautification Committee, a volunteer group headed by Emily Magana and Amy Gravestine who live on the lake with their families, have cleared years of accumulated overgrowth from two large sections of lakefront on the Haines Drive side of the lake. The SLBC consists of local residents volunteering their time to make a difference in their community.

Did you know the 85th anniversary of the park opening to the public is this October? The original opening 85 years ago was for the section completed from church street to pleasant valley avenue.

A lot of us have stories to tell about growing up and going to Strawbridge Lake to spread a blanket on the ground, do homework, read a book, have a picnic or watch ducks and geese swim in the lake.

If you have some fun stories you would like to have printed or have family pictures to share, please send them to the editor.

Thank you SLBC! Keep up the good work.
