Young School’s namesake turns 90
Barbara “Bunny” Bernice Young not only leant Burlington Township elementary school her name but an attitude that lives on to this day. Young turned 90 years old on April 8, and B. Bernice Young Elementary School, originally named Pinewald School, threw its school’s namesake a celebration on Thursday, March 30 to commemorate her milestone birthday. Students and faculty created a paper red carpet to lead Young into a celebration where she was greeted by balloons, banners and a cake.
Green Team planting a sustainable future for Burlington Township
With its upcoming initiatives, the Green Team is hoping make more residents of Burlington Township aware that they exist. On Saturday, April 22 at noon, the team will host a tree giveaway at Green Acres Park as a part of the 18th annual “Burlington Township Cleanup Day.” By making the giveaway a part of the day’s festivities, the goal is to spark an interest with residents who may be unfamiliar with the Green Team. Approximately 500 saplings will be given away along with instructions on how to care for them.
Grand Jury returns murder indictment for 2016 shooting
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s office released a statement on Thursday, April 6 regarding the 2016 fatal shooting of a Burlington Township resident. Burlington County Prosecutor Scott A. Coffina announced that a Beverly City man has been indicted by a Burlington County Grand Jury for fatally shooting a 22-year-old Burlington Township resident in November 2016. Darius Bridges, 27, of the 200 block of Broad Street in Beverly, was indicted on one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon and one count of second-degree certain persons not to have weapons.
