The Moorestown Library would like to express our deepest gratitude once again to Sean Fischel Connect for donating $10,000 in support of children’s programming for a second consecutive year.
Last year, the generous support of this wonderful organization allowed us to purchase a new bookcase to double the size of Sean’s Book Nook, a popular collection of books donated by the community in memory of Sean Fischel.
We also launched a very popular series of programs, “Science Saturdays,” featuring traveling science shows from the Franklin Institute. With Sean Fischel Connect’s financial support, hundreds of children got a glimpse of life in space, toured the wonders of the human body, learned about the miracle of flight and explored many other fascinating topics in science.
Last summer the library introduced a popular summer math program to compliment our longstanding tradition of summer reading. Over 200 children signed up to add math practice to their summer routine. This year’s gift will allow us to expand the program with bigger prizes for all participants.
Sean Fischel Connect provides funding for the library’s 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten reading challenge, which the New Jersey State Library recently honored with its “Best Practices in Early Literacy” award. To date, nearly 300 children have signed up to set a goal of reading 1,000 books with their families before entering kindergarten. They earn prizes along the way and celebrate their achievement with a party at the library the night before kindergarten begins.
Last year, because of the generous spirit of Sean Fischel Connect and the wonderful community support that makes it possible, over 1,000 children and adults enjoyed special events like puppet shows, magic shows, theater presentations, music, animal shows, storytelling and a special visit from book characters Elephant and Piggie at the library.
This year, we look forward to continuing the tradition of offering top quality programming that allows families to laugh and learn together. We are honored to be able to continue sharing Sean’s legacy of playfulness, curiosity and generosity with the children of Moorestown thanks to Sean Fischel Connect.
