Letter to the Editor: Bob Loesch

I just finished reading the letters in the latest issue. I found myself amused by Kathleen Dickeys’ letter calling for censorship. Perhaps she hasn’t read the Constitution lately.

As far as I know this country has a rather long history of written opinions on many issues, politics being among them.

Having read many of the letters before and after the elections, both sides of the political spectrum had letters published. Edwin Begg’s letters, to me, were well written and somewhat humorous. Other letters have offended me, but I will fight to the death to defend the writers’ opinions.

There are undoubtedly times when some censorship is necessary. I have in past times sworn to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States of America. I still believe in that oath to this day.

Free speech does not give one the right to yell, “fire” in a crowed theater as stated by Oliver Wendell Holmes. That being said, in this instance, however, the censorship desired by Dickey is neither warranted nor necessary.
