The fire election will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 2 to 9 p.m.
On Saturday, Feb. 18, Burlington Township voters will go to the Fire District Headquarters on Burlington Bypass to vote on the Fire District №1’s proposed budget for 2017. Polls will be open from 2 to 9 p.m.
Residents will also vote for a member on the Board of Commissioners for a three-year term. Incumbent commissioner Deborah Painter is running unopposed.
The total proposed budget is $3,161,671. The total amount to be raised through taxes is $1,948,000, an increase of $68,000 from last year’s budget.
The average homeowner with an average assessed home value of $228,800 would see a tax increase of $7, from $194 to $201 per year, if the budget is passed.
Some of the biggest budget items are paid positions, which make up $169,981, and utilities and building maintenance, which makes up $167,000. Other items include fire prevention programs, training and education, incentive programs and fuel.
Director of Fire Services John Stewart says the most notable budget changes this year are a replacement of a 26-year-old utility truck and a 13-year-old van.
“The budget also includes funding for the replacement of 13-year-old self-contained breathing apparatus. The breathing apparatus supplies firefighters with air when entering hazardous atmospheres,” Stewart said. “All budget items other than the previously mentioned capital projects remain essentially the same.”
