Indian Mills Troop 47 participate in Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Conservation Project
On Monday, January 16, Boy Scouts from Indian Mills Troop 47 took to the streets — literally.
Working with their parents and other troop leaders, sixteen young men participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Conservation Project of collecting Christmas Trees. Contributing nearly 170 man hours, the Scouts and their leaders collected nearly 200 trees and delivered them to the county recycling center.
In addition to the volunteer time spent, community support was provided by donations from Harold Abrams, Atlantic Trailer Leasing, and Upper Crust Pizza. Additionally, Sue Onorato, Shamong Township Administrator, coordinated communication to the community. Financial donations received will provide equipment and training for the Scouts to continue to develop their leadership skills.
This is the seventh year that the Scouts have offered this service to the residents of Shamong, where they learn the values of community and conservation. Many thanks to the volunteers, businesses, and residents for their continued support of this project.
