Cherry Hill Police have released a number of shopping safety tips for shoppers to heed during the final week of the holiday shopping season. Police are asking shoppers to follow the following tips:

  • If you must store packages in your vehicle, lock them in your trunk.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and the people around you.
  • If you must shop in the evening, shop with a friend.
  • Park in well lit areas, and be particularly aware of persons in the parking lot.
  • Refrain from activating your car’s remote from a distance.
  • Carry only the credit cards you will need. Don’t carry or flash large sums of cash.
  • Carry your purse next to your body with the purse flap against you. Men should carry their wallets in their front or inside pockets.
  • Have your keys ready when exiting stores.
  • Don’t hesitate to notify store security or police if you see suspicious activity.
  • If you have to wait for a ride, wait in a busy, well lit area.
  • Teach children to go to a store clerk or security guard to ask for help if you become separated.
  • Remove all your packages and belongings from your car when you get home.
  • Lock your car at all times, even when home.

Residents are asked to call 9–1–1 only if there is an emergency. Cherry Hill Police can be reached on its non-emergency phone number at (856) 665–1200. The police department’s 24-hour information number is (856) 488–7828.
