A fire at an apartment building in the Echelon Village Apartments has displaced nine families. The blaze started around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23, in the 100 block of Van Buren Road. Residents from three floors were evacuated before firefighters put out the flames. The Red Cross and building management are working to provide placement for three families at a nearby hotel. The remaining families were able to find temporary shelter with nearby relatives. The cause of the fire is still under investigation and there were no reported injuries.
