Haddonfield will be continuing its family-oriented, alcohol-free New Year’s Eve festival.
Commissioners authorized the Haddonfield Cultural Events Commission to sponsor the First Night Haddonfield on Saturday, Dec. 31 from 6 p.m. to midnight.
“This is a resolution we do annually to hold First Night,” Mayor Jeff Kasko said.
First Night Haddonfield features stimulating entertainment including magic, music, comedy, dance and theater for audiences of all ages from children and families to teens and seniors, according to the First Night Haddonfield website.
The stages are set in more than 15 venues along Kings Highway in the historic buildings and churches in downtown Haddonfield. The KidsZone will provide special entertainment and activities for kids 9 and under, located at Haddonfield’s Central/Middle School Gym and All-Purpose room from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. At 9 p.m. will be the dramatic fireworks, to celebrate the end of the 2016 and welcome the new year. More information on First Night will come as the event gets closer.
First Night buttons are available for sale both online and at First Night button outlets. All buttons are $15. To see a list of First Night button outlets, order online and a list of button sale dates, visit www.firstnighthaddonfield.org/haddonfield-first-night-buttons/.
Kings Highway will be closed from Haddon Avenue to the PATCO station, and connecting intersections, from 3 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 1 a.m. on Jan. 1. All food and entertainment is permitted to be held, as per the resolution and approved by the First Night Steering Committee.
As First Night is expected to attract thousands of people, according to another resolution, the borough will allow residents and guests to park on borough streets between midnight and 6 a.m. on Jan. 1. Commissioners unanimously passed the ordinance allowing overnight parking.
