Burlington County offers child safety seat check Aug. 6

Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield announced today that her department will be taking their child safety seat checks on the road once again, this time to Westampton Township. By offering checkpoints in multiple municipalities, the Sheriff’s Department is able to extend services throughout Burlington County.

“With summer coming to an end, families are rounding out their summer vacations, meaning more time in the car traveling,” said Sheriff Stanfield. “Our goal is to provide busy parents with essential services when and where it is most convenient for them.”

“Our Child Passenger Safety Seat Program conducts hands-on training for parents and caregivers to ensure that their children’s safety seats are properly installed,” Sheriff Stanfield stated. “When we travel with our children, we are traveling with our most precious cargo. These safety checks are essential to ensuring that parents are taking all precautions to prevent tragedy.”

The next checkpoint will be held Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Westampton Fire House in Westampton.

“We’re excited to partner with the Westampton Fire Department for this safety seat check. Hopefully our combined efforts will encourage parents to take part in a service that has potentially life-saving benefits.” Sheriff Stanfield added.

“According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, research on the effectiveness of child safety seats shows their use can reduce fatalities for children under one-year-old by 71 percent and for toddlers, ages 1 to 4, by 54 percent.” Sheriff Stanfield continued. “If used properly, a child safety restraint can reduce the need for hospitalization among children 4 years of age and under by 69 percent.”

The Burlington County Child Passenger Safety Program has inspected over 14,000 child safety seats when it was established sixteen years ago.
