Maker of the World’s Smallest Heart Pump Brings Mobile Learning Lab to Lourdes

An Abiomed trainer talks with Lourdes staff about the Impella, the world’s smallest heart pump.

Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center recently participated in the Abiomed Mobile Learning Lab program, a facilitated interactive learning experience designed to help train hospital staff on the use of the Impella, the world’s smallest heart pump. The Mobile Learning Lab is built into a tractor trailer and contains Impella simulators, animations, and key information, which are all presented by a team of Abiomed trainers.

The Mobile Learning Lab offered Lourdes cardiologists, nurses and catheterization lab staff a convenient opportunity to learn about the Impella platform and how these heart pumps can best be used for patients in critical need of cardiac support.

Lourdes is known for its innovation in heart care and is one of the largest providers of cardiac services in the Delaware Valley. In June 2015, the New York Times featured Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center as a national model in the effective and swift treatment of heart attacks. Lourdes has received a variety of cardiac care awards from Healthgrades and Truven Health Analytics, and has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review.
