Weekly Roundup: Cherry Hill man makes progress in paralysis recovery, swim club celebrates 50th anniversary

This week, a Cherry Hill man continued to make progress toward recovering from complete T10 paralysis and members of a local swim club looked back on the club’s history 50 years after its founding. Check out the top stories from the past week in Cherry Hill in the Weekly Roundup:

Ryan DiGiovanni overcoming odds as he recovers from complete T10 paralysis

In January of 2015, Ryan DiGiovanni was paralyzed from the belly button down after his car slipped on an icy road and crashed into a tree. About 18 months after learning he had about a 1 percent chance to walk again, DiGiovanni is on the path to recovery. He is learning to move his legs again thanks to his therapy sessions at Project Walk in Mt. Laurel. Now, he is asking for the community’s help to complete his recovery.

Looking back at 50 years of Old Orchard Swim Club

On Saturday, Old Orchard Swim Club celebrated the 50th anniversary of the opening of the club. In the days leading up to the celebration, members looked back on how the club got started, how the swim team became successful, and what the future of the club looks like.

National Night Out coming to Cherry Hill on Aug. 2

Cherry Hill Township will join thousands of municipalities across the country on Aug. 2 as it celebrates National Night Out. The event will take place on the fields behind the Cherry Hill Municipal Building and will include fun activities, demonstrations and prizes for all ages. The goal of the event is to further strengthen the bond between the community and local law enforcement.

Local developer purchases property, liquor license for former Red Eagle Tavern

On Tuesday, Markeim Chalmers announced the former Red Eagle Tavern on Chapel Avenue in Cherry Hill was sold to an unnamed local developer for about $2.2 million. The sale closed on May 23, weeks after the tavern shut its doors.
