Adult volunteer mentors spend one hour per week reading to at-risk elementary school students in South Jersey.
BookMates, the interfaith literacy program of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Southern New Jersey and the Catholic Jewish Commission, is looking for adult volunteer reading mentors to spend one hour per week during the school day reading on a one-to-one basis with at-risk students in elementary schools throughout South Jersey. Volunteers would be asked to work from October through June.
Training sessions for new volunteers will be held on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon; Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 1to 3 p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon and Thursday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.n. to noon. All of the sessions will be held at the Katz Jewish Community Center in Cherry Hill.
