At approximately 2:34 a.m., Cherry Hill firefighters were dispatched to Short Hills after receiving a report of an automatic fire alarm. Prior to fire personnel arriving on the scene, the Camden County Communications Center upgraded the assignment to a structure fire and said smoke and fire were visible at the site.

After arriving on scene, a large exterior fire was reported on the west side of the building. The fire also extended into the second floor soffit area. The fire was upgraded to two alarms shortly after the battalion chief arrived on scene.

Hose lines were set up to knock down the exterior fire while other crews stretched an attack line to the interior second floor of the building. All Cherry Hill Fire Department units were at the scene during the fire. The second alarm units were set to a staging area at ShopRite before relieving Cherry Hill fire units after they had been operating at the scene for an extended period of time.

The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes of dispatch. No injuries were reported. The Cherry Hill fire marshal is investigating the cause of the blaze.

This is the second time in a decade Short Hills Deli has had a fire, with the last fire taking place in January of 2008. In a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the owners of Short Hills thanked the Cherry Hill Fire Department for their response and vowed to rebuild.
