On June 7, Willow was time-stamped to be euthanized at ACCT Philly. After years of inhumane breeding, the American bulldog was in dire need of emergency uterine surgery and suffering from a severe case of pneumonia. The sick dog was surrendered to the shelter, where her ailments put her at the top of the euthanasia list at the already overcrowded Philadelphia facility.
Lucky for Willow, Cherry Hill-based Paw It 4ward Foundation came to her rescue. The group pulled Willow from ACCT and brought her straight to Mount Laurel Animal Hospital and, although it has only been a month, Willow is now a happy, healthy and mellow mutt looking for her forever home.
“I can’t even imagine having not saved her,” Azita Kay, Paw It 4ward founder, said. “She is my shadow from the moment I wake up and every morning we sit on the couch while I drink my coffee and she looks at me and gives me kisses in between sips.”
Kay said Willow had “a village behind her” from the moment she arrived at ACCT Philly. Paw It 4ward was able to spring her for rescue. NJ Aid for Animals sponsored her emergency care. Mount Laurel Animal Hospital always care for Paw It 4ward’s dogs in need. Many volunteers with ACCT Philly and Paw It 4ward Facebook friends donated toward Willow’s medical bills, too.
Now, all Willow’s story needs is her happy ending.
“I picture her perfect family to be a retired couple that wants a super chill dog and do not mind snoring. She is really super low energy and walks are not a must at all!” Kay said.
Willow is a large American bulldog/American Staffordshire terrier mix, estimated to be about 4 to 5 years old. She is a beautiful fawn-colored canine, with soulful brown eyes and an expressive face. Willow never interacted much with other dogs for play, so she will need a home with either no other pets or a low-key dog she can be slowly introduced to. Cats are not a match for Willow. She’s great with kids, but as Kay stresses, Willow is a lazy pooch, so she may be a boring match for energetic children.
“She definitely knows how to love. She is kind and sweet to all people that she meets,” Kay said, “and her eyes will melt your heart from the moment you meet her.”
