Burlington County Freeholder Mary Ann O’Brien has announced that members from FEMA and the NJDEP will be holding Flood Risk Open Houses in Burlington County within the coming weeks.
“We really encourage residents to come out and learn about their potential flood risks and ask any questions they may have regarding the threat that flooding poses to their community,” O’Brien said.
Though there will be no formal presentations, residents can attend the open houses to meet one-on-one with content experts to better understand their flood risk, learn about potential changes to their flood insurance rates (or if they will be required to purchase flood insurance) and tips on proper flood preparations. Representatives will also go over the newly updated flood maps for Burlington County.
The event dates are as follows:
Tuesday, June 28 — Burlington County Emergency Training Center, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., 53 Academy Drive, Westampton.
Wednesday, June 29 — Burlington Township Municipal Building, 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., 851 Old York Road, Burlington.
“Residents may come at any time between the hours posted and should bring copies of their elevation certificates and flood insurance policies for proper assistance,” O’Brien said.
“It is essential that residents understand the risks posed to their safety should a flood happen in their immediate area,” O’Brien said. “The most effective way to protect our community is by making sure that our residents are educated and prepared in the event of an emergency.”
