Eric Biehn Named Shawnee Valedictorian

While math and science are two of the more challenging subjects for some students, Shawnee High School valedictorian Eric Biehn has always excelled in them. Planning to major in math and physics, he will be attending Duke University located in Durham, N.C., in the fall.

“I chose Duke because it has strong math and science programs and is situated in beautiful North Carolina,” Biehn said.

His favorite subject, Biehn notes he has enjoyed every math class he’s ever taken at Shawnee. Although these classes brought him academic fulfillment, what really made his high school experience memorable was being elected class president at the end of his sophomore year. He was able to maintain this position through the end of his senior year.

“I would advise all incoming freshman to get involved in as many activities as they can. It will allow them to meet friends and have a memorable high school experience,” Biehn said.

Helping make his experience both memorable and successful, the valedictorian was largely inspired by his parents and brother on a daily basis. He explains it was the examples they set by putting in hours of hard work that taught him effort pays off.

“I look up to my family members for always being there for me,” Biehn said. “I also look up to my principal, Mr. Campbell, for being very successful and yet still having a great sense of humor.”

Through his continued determination and willingness to persevere until all of his goals have been achieved, Biehn looks forward to all the possibilities he may benefit from during his future endeavors at Duke University. While becoming valedictorian and seeing his own hard work pay off feels great, he admits this is just the beginning of his journey.

Although still exploring career options, the graduating senior is contemplating astrophysics, but ultimately wishes to find a career he is passionate about and that he can enjoy. Above all, he wishes to make a positive impact on the future, and believes his fellow graduates all possess this ability.
