Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield would like to remind residents that her department will be taking their child safety seat checks on the road by offering checkpoints in multiple municipalities to extend services beyond Mt. Holly.
“With summer in full swing, families are traveling more frequently and children’s safety should be a top priority,” Stanfield said. “Our goal is to provide busy parents with essential services when and where it is most convenient for them. In addition to the checkpoints we hold at the County Administration Building each Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Sheriff’s Department has additional checkpoints planned around the county.”
The next checkpoint will be held on Saturday, June 25 in Mt. Laurel at the Mt. Laurel EMS building, 3824 Church Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Our Child Passenger Safety Seat Program conducts hands-on training for parents and caregivers to ensure that their children’s safety seats are properly installed,” Sheriff Stanfield said. “The Sheriff’s Department Child Safety Seat Team consists of State Certified Technicians who also check all child seats for safety concerns and recalls.”
The Burlington County Child Passenger Safety Program has inspected over 14,000 child safety seats since its start sixteen years ago.
“According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, research on the effectiveness of child safety seats shows their use can reduce fatalities for children under 1-year-old by 71 percent and for toddlers (ages 1–4) by 54 percent.” Stanfield said. “If used properly a child safety restraint can reduce the need for hospitalization among children 4 years of age and under by 69 percent.”
