On April 13, the Shamong Township Schools’ Board Administrator/Board Secretary, Marie Goodwin, accepted the board secretary position with Medford Township Public Schools.
Goodwin was thoroughly enjoying her time in Shamong and had nothing but great things to say about the district, but acknowledged the opportunity she was presented with as a perfect fit for her at this point in her accomplished career.
“I absolutely loved it in Shamong,” Goodwin said.
Goodwin completed her undergraduate work at Stockton State College and obtained her master’s degree in business administration at Rider University.
Her professional career includes more than 20 years of experience working for the state Department of Education in several capacities, including executive county school business administrator and interim executive county superintendent.
She has also served as a school board member for both Springfield Township School District and Northern Burlington County Regional School District.
In 2014, she was appointed to assume the role of the school business administrator/board secretary position in Shamong.
“I enjoyed it greatly,” she said. “They have a strong administrative team that I’m going to miss dearly.”
When Goodwin started in Shamong two years ago, Superintendent Christine Vespe had only been there for a year prior to her arrival.
“I think we worked very well together as a team,” Goodwin said.
“Marie brought with her a wealth of knowledge and years of experience that helped to implement a variety of initiatives in the Shamong school district,” Vespe said
The most recent projects included air conditioning at the elementary school and district-wide security upgrades.
She also played an intricate role in bringing the district’s operations enhanced new accounting software and implementing the new electronic board meetings.
She deferred much of the praise, crediting her administrative team for always working closely and collaboratively on each of the district’s goals in an efficient manner.
“That’s all due to the leadership of the superintendent. She is a great leader, and I was lucky to have my time with her,” Goodwin said.
The position for school business administrator/board secretary has been advertised on the school district website, as well as on numerous education employment websites.
According to Vespe, the interview process will begin shortly with the hopes of finding a successful candidate to fill the position in the coming months.
Goodwin will assume her new position in Medford on June 13.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Marie, and her knowledge and dedication to the district will be missed,” Vespe said.
