New RCBC Honors Courses

Starting this fall, Rowan College at Burlington County students can enroll in honors courses; four different rigorous courses in chemistry, math, English and history will be offered.

“Rowan College at Burlington County’s most talented students will now have the opportunity to excel in our new honors initiative, which was suggested, created and developed by our talented faculty,” said RCBC President Paul Drayton. “Our innovative undergraduate research program, honors courses and 300-level courses as part of the ‘3+1’ path to a $25,000 Rowan University degree are all challenging options that students cannot get at other two-year colleges.”

Incoming freshmen, current RCBC students, students transferring to RCBC and high school students with a minimum 3.2 GPA are all eligible to apply. Students can choose to sign up for a maximum of two courses, which include general chemistry I, calculus I and analytic geometry, composition II, and U.S. history I. Each course has different eligibility requirements.

“The RCBC Honors Committee members, a group of faculty representing different disciplines, created the criteria students would need to meet in order to succeed in these honors courses,” said RCBC Chemistry Instructor and Committee Chair Laura Stewart. “RCBC students have demonstrated that there is a need for these honors courses by excelling academically in regular college-level coursework and we are prepared to meet the growing need of these academically-advanced students.”

Honors applications are available online and can be submitted prior to fall registration. To apply to the RCBC Honors Initiative or for more information, please go to rcbc.edu/honors (bcc.us7.list-manage.com/track/click?u=afc1a207549d60bc5fa0341a4&id=6f09d72f8a&e=7261cacf81). Incoming freshman, transferring students and high school students are also required to submit transcripts to the college’s admissions office.

“This is a Rowan College at Burlington County difference. Our students are getting experiences here that rival those at four-year universities,” said RCBC Senior Vice President and Provost Dr. David Spang. “Our faculty bring real-world professional experience into the classrooms, the college is fully-accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and we are one of only about 100 community colleges in the nation to earn approval from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. This new honors initiative will be the perfect complement to our existing high-quality offerings.”

Honors courses will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis for qualifying students. The maximum number of students in each honors course is 20.
