Moorestown Schools swears in BOE members, welcomes back NFL player Dave Robinson

Moorestown Township Public Schools had a busy day on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

During Moorestown High School’s boys basketball against Northern Burlington, MTPS received a golden football from alumnus Dave Robinson, a former NFL player. Later that night, at the Board of Education meeting, elected members were sworn in and a new vice president was chosen.

The BOE reorganization meeting on Jan. 5 welcomed J. Harry Faunce, a new member to the board, as well as previously serving members Brandon Pugh and David Weinstein. Their terms will run through 2019.

Kathy Goldenberg was once again chosen as president of the board, fulfilling her second term. Pugh was chosen as vice president.

“Our board members are a team of extremely hard-working and committed individuals. I feel honored to have their support to lead,” Goldenberg said.

“I am truly honored to been elected vice president of the Moorestown BOE. I have greatly enjoyed my service on the Board since 2013, which has included chairing two committees, serving on numerous others, and representing the board to the county and state School Boards Association. As a Moorestown graduate, it has been a privilege to give back to such a great district and community,” Pugh said.

Goldenberg has been on the board since 2007 and was vice president from 2011 to 2014. She has been president since 2015. Goldenberg has been a resident of Moorestown since 1992 and has had her two children attend MTPS from kindergarten through high school. She has been a part of the Home and School Association, Transportation and Safety Committee, Technology Committee, Curriculum Committee, Budget and Finance Committee and others.

Since her time on the board and for all of her hard work, in 2015, Goldenberg received two awards for her high level of Board of Education training. She received the Board Member Academy Award, and is now recognized statewide as a certificated board member. She was also the recipient of a surprise Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition given by Rep. Tom MacArthur from the Third Congressional District. Goldenberg was also appointed to serve the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association as an executive committee member representing the New Jersey School Boards Association.

Pugh has served on the BOE since 2013. He has served as the chair of the Policy and Governance Committee and a member of the Technology Committee. He also represents the Moorestown BOE to the Burlington County School Boards Association, the New Jersey School Boards Association and on the District Health/Safety Committee. He holds numerous educational leadership positions at the county and state level, including serving as the president of the BCSBA, which represents the county’s 42 school districts.

During the Moorestown High School boys basketball game earlier that night, MTPS welcomed back Robinson, an NFL Hall of Famer and Super Bowl winner, who presented the school with an NFL Hall of Fame Golden Football in a ceremony at halftime, as part of the nationwide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl.

Robinson, 74, graduated from Moorestown High School in 1957. He played 12 seasons in the NFL from 1963–1974, including 10 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and two with the Washington Redskins. Robinson was a three-time Pro Bowler in his 155-game career. Most notably, he was a two-time Super Bowl champion with the Packers in Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II.

The presentation is a part of the Super Bowl High School Honor Roll initiative. According to a Moorestown High School press release, the initiative is set on “recognizing schools and communities that contributed to Super Bowl history and positively impacted the game of football.”

High schools all over America and beyond will receive a commemorative Wilson Golden Football for all players and coaches who were on a Super Bowl winning roster.
