Reviewing ‘Secret in Their Eyes’

Secret in Their Eyes (Rated: PG-13)

Drama

Carol: Worth the Matinee Price

This is a cleverly told tale of murder that seamlessly jumps back and forth between current time and the year of the murder. In fact, the time-frame jump is so well done that often it is tricky to know which time period is being portrayed. Only Nicole Kidman’s hair and images of Julia Roberts as homely and old are quick give-a-ways. A suspense-filled film that keeps viewers glued to their seats! Solid performances by Ms. Roberts, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ms. Kidman.

Phil: Worth the Matinee Price

An interesting “remake” of a 2009 film of the same name which won an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. The original movie was filmed in Argentina, in Spanish, as a joint production of Argentine and Spanish companies.

The current version starring Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman and Chiwetel Ejiofor, is set in Los Angeles. Having not seen the original, I can’t compare the two. As to this one, it kept me interested. Enjoy it for what it is; don’t read the history until after you see this one.
