The Brightview Mt. Laurel assisted living community located at 400 Fernbrooke Lane hosted the 8th Annual “Cruisin’ for a Cause” Classic Car Show & Cookout for Alzheimer’s on Sunday, Oct. 18. All proceeds raised at the event will support education and research initiatives for the South Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
Guests enjoyed a large display of antique cars and street rods from the early 1900s thru 1970s, music from 92.5 WXTU Country Radio and a local “oldies” DJ, and a tasty cookout featuring homemade chili, burgers, hot dogs and other goodies. Roughly $3,000 was raised from sponsorships, lunch ticket and raffle ticket sales.
The “Cruisin’ for a Cause” event is not run like traditional car shows because the trophy winners are voted by the senior residents from the host community.
Brightview Mt Laurel residents were escorted by staff to vote for their favorite cars at the show, and trophies were presented to 1st 2nd & 3rd place “Resident’s Choice Award” winners. Staff and volunteers also voted for the “Best of Show Award” winner.
Winning the 1st Place “Resident’s Choice Award” was South Jersey resident Richard Wenzke with his beautiful 1951 Bentley. Wenzke attends many local car shows dressed in his professional chauffeur uniform, and enjoys taking pictures with guests and sharing the history of his vintage car.
“Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States, and we still have yet to find a cure”, said South Jersey Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter executive director Linda Coppinger. “With continued support from fundraising events and donations, hopefully we can end this terrible disease that robs our loved ones of their memory.”
