Freeholders announce state to close 295 ramp to 42 tonight, overnight

Freeholder Ian Leonard has been informed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) that the state will institute overnight lane closures in the Exit 26 area on I-295 tonight for barrier installation in Belmawr.

“Residents should be aware that in addition to tonight’s closure, this construction will impact their commute and their communities for several years,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works. “When this project is completed, it will alleviate much of the traffic congestion currently experienced on a daily basis. It will be a monumental change for this highway interchange creating a substantial upgrade to the current configuration.”

On Sept. 14 at 9:00 p.m., NJDOT will close the left lane of I-295 southbound at mile 26.5. At 10:00 p.m. the two right lanes will be closed at mile 27.5. At 11:00 the entire Al-Jo’s curve will be closed and detoured. All lanes will be reopened at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Motorist traveling on I-295 southbound will be directed to take the following detour:

Keep left and take Exit 26 to I-76 westbound. Take exit 1C, Market Street. Make a left onto Market Street and bear right onto I-76 eastbound. Take I-76 eastbound to Exit 1A, I-295 southbound.

“Whenever you are driving through a road construction zone, please stay alert and be prepared for traffic pattern changes,” Leonard said. “Motorists should be observant of traffic instructions on electronic message boards if you are traveling through the construction area.”

Electronic message signs will be used to notify motorists of the detours. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
