Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works, wants motorists to be aware that the southbound lane of Grove Street is closed between Maple Avenue and Hawthorne Avenue in Haddonfield while crews demolish the concrete pavement along the shoulder of the roadway. Grove Street will be completely reconstructed through a $2.5 million federal highway grant and will include, new drainage, pedestrian improvements, concrete work and paving over the next two months.
“Grove Street is a well-traveled route between Haddonfield and Cherry Hill. If this road is part of your commute, please plan an alternant route over the next few days,” Leonard said. “Please be alert for traffic pattern changes, and be observant of posted instructions or directions whenever you are driving through the construction zone.”
Traffic is currently being detoured south on Wood Lane to Hawthorne Avenue to get back to Grove Street. The northbound lane of Grove Street is open to traffic. This project will be ongoing and motorists should be aware that there will be intermittent closures and lane changes during construction. If possible motorists should explore new routes for their daily commutes.
“This roadway carries thousands of vehicles a day through Haddonfield and Cherry Hill and was targeted for investment by the Board,” Leonard said. “This two month project represents our continued commitment to address our infrastructure needs and ensure Camden County keeps moving.”
The exact timing of the project is dependent upon the weather and other factors.
The Camden County Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining over 1,200 lane miles of county roadway and 50 bridges. They are dedicated to making our area safer for motorists and pedestrians through county highway construction projects, snow removal and road maintenance, including pothole repairs, street sweeping, grass cutting and storm drainage upkeep. The Public Works Department is located in Lindenwold where personnel are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to serve the residents of Camden County.
