For nearly 150 years, Tabernacle is home

Tabernacle Township, born and bred.

Committeeman Stephen Lee IV was born here. In fact, his family has lived in the Speedwell section of Tabernacle since 1868.

“Aside from roughly 10 years spent away from home for a combination of school, employment and my father’s military deployment, I have always considered Tabernacle home,” Lee said.

During those years, he discovered his new favorite vacation spot to be St. Croix in the Virgin Islands and also worked at Walt Disney World in Florida for almost two years.

His favorite part about Tabernacle is the family, friends and residents who live in the town who he grew up with.

The fifth through seventh generations of the Lee family live and work on their 1,800 acre cranberry, blueberry, nursery and forestry operation.

“Farming is a way of life, and a year-round commitment,” Lee said.

Most of his time is spent working on the farm, raising his two sons with his wife, Monica.

In his spare time when he is not on the farm, Lee enjoys playing golf and spending time with family and friends.

With his busy schedule, his drink of choice to get him going in the morning is Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice.

The Lee family has been growing cranberries of their own since the 1950s.

“My favorite time of year is without a doubt the cranberry harvest season in October,” Lee said.

Lee enjoys sitting down in the fall with a fresh lobster roll and an ice-cold Samuel Adams Boston Lager and watching the “always exciting” Philadelphia Eagles.

However, his favorite sport is America’s past-time, baseball. And his favorite games to watch are the ones his boys are playing in.

Lee was raised believing residents have a responsibility to help out or contribute to the community in some way.

“I have served my community and agricultural interests in many different ways over the years,” Lee said. “But I am most grateful to the voters of Tabernacle for their trust in me in serving as their representative on the township committee.“

Lee is entering the final year of his second three-year term. He has served as committeeman, mayor and deputy mayor during that time.

“The work of the township committee is a responsibility I take very seriously,” Lee said. “I depend on and appreciate the feedback and opinions from residents on various issues.”
