The award-winning, non-profit Moorestown Theater Company will present the classic family musical, “Mary Poppins,” plus four children’s musicals this July and August, including the Delaware Valley Premiere of Disney’s “The Lion King, Jr.” The other three shows include “Seussical, Jr.,” “Legally Blonde, Jr.” and “Broadway Kids.” Sharing the part of George Banks in our “Mary Poppins” “Black” Cast is frequent MTC performer and trustee, Rick Williams, of Channel 6abc.
Disney’s “The Lion King, Jr.” is a beloved family musical, written by Elton John and Tim Rice, featuring these favorite songs like: “Circle Of Life,” “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King” and “Hakuna Matata.” An 80+ member cast will present the story of Mufasa, Scar, Simba, Rafiki, Timon, Pumbaa and the other Pride Rock animals. The performances shall be at Hope Community Church, 235 West Main Street. Show dates are July 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; July 9 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and July 10 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are $12.
MTC will present the Moorestown premiere of the classic musical “Mary Poppins,” about the mysterious nanny who teaches a troubled family to appreciate the important things in life. Split into the “Black” and “Gold” cast, 70+ all-age members, directed by MTC’s producing artistic director Mark Morgan, will perform this musical with such well-known songs as “A Spoonful Of Sugar,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Let’s Go Fly A Kite” and the Oscar-winning “Chim Chim Cher-ee.” The performances shall be at William Allen Middle School, 801 North Stanwick Rd. Show dates are July 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25 at 7 p.m. and July 19 and 25 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $17.
MTC will present the family-friendly “Suessical, Jr.” musical that features such beloved Dr. Seuss characters as The Cat In The Hat, Horton The Elephant, The Grinch, and the residents of Whoville. The performances shall be at Hope Community Church. Show dates are July 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., July 30 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m., and July 31 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.
MTC’s fourth all-teen cast will present the musical version of the hilarious 2001 Hollywood movie “Legally Blonde, Jr.” Our teen cast will bring Elle Woods’s story to life as she follows her dream to Harvard Law School, only to discover a new goal. The performances shall be at Hope Community Church. Show dates are Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.; Aug. 13 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. and Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.
MTC’s fourth all pre-teen summer cast will present a new musical revue called “Broadway Kids,” highlighting songs from favorite children’s musical, such as “Annie,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Beauty And The Beast,” among others. The performances shall be at Hope Community Church. Show dates are Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.; Aug. 20 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Disney’s “The Lion King, Jr.,” “Seussical, Jr.,” “Legally Blonde, Jr.” and “Broadway Kids” will be presented at the end of the first, second, third and fourth sessions of Summer Stage ’15, MTC’s award-winning Musical Theater Camp. The camps are designed for children between 6 and 17 and held at Hope Community Church. There are still openings for the second, third and fourth sessions.
