The Camden County Department of Public Works will start a significant multiple-week highway project on the Haddonfield-Berlin Road bridge near the Downs Farm Swim Club in Cherry Hill. The work will necessitate the reduction of the roadway from four to two lanes beginning Monday, June 22.
“Improving our roadway infrastructure while increasing highway safety is one of the best investments we can make in our county,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County DPW. “Each year the Freeholder Board identifies roadways and bridges that are in need of improvement. This major artery through the heart of Camden County will need significant work and the construction will create commuting delays for drivers.”
The outer lanes of Route 561 will be closed 24 hours a day for two to three weeks to facilitate the bridge improvements. The exact timing of the project is dependent upon the weather and other factors. Message boards are in place to alter motorists of possible traffic delays.
“Whenever you are driving through a road construction zone, please prepare for traffic pattern changes, and be observant of posted instructions,” Leonard said. “In addition, finding an alternate route to your destination would also be advisable during the duration of this project.”
