The Department of Parks and Recreation is very excited about the upcoming Moorestown Business Association event, Moorestown Day, scheduled for Saturday, June 6. The department along with many of its partner organizations has been preparing for the opportunity to showcase its many Summer Programs. The department’s booth will be located near Aunt Selma’s Candy Shop on Main Street.
The Department of Parks and Recreation booth will offer residents the opportunity to pick up information about upcoming summer programs as well as a sneak-peek into fall programs like Girls Field Hockey, Recreation Youth Soccer and more. Department representatives will be on-site to answer questions and help you register for upcoming programs. Registration is as easy as a tap on your smart phone. Stop by the Department of Parks and Recreation booth on Saturday and join the Recreation Nation.
Moorestown Day also marks the annual Moorestown Public Schools’s District Art Show, sponsored by MoorArts. The art show is located at the Church Street Recreation Center. The Department of Parks and Recreation and MoorArts have been long-standing community partners and work together throughout the year to promote the arts in Moorestown. From the Holiday Arts Festival and MoorMotion to the District Art show, the Department of Parks and Recreation is proud to have MoorArts as a community partner.
Each spring, the Church Street Recreation Center opens its doors to host the Annual District Art Show sponsored by MoorArts to showcase the talents of Moorestown youth, Kindergarten through High School. The District Art Show is an amazing display of the talents of our local young artists. Admission to the show is free and light refreshments are available to all who attend. Additionally there will be free children’s face painting and free crafts. This event is a perfect example of the activities and partnerships that exist within Moorestown and through the Department of Parks and Recreation. Building upon recreation philosophy, the District Art Show highlights the importance of recreation in our community. The District Arts Show is located on the third floor of the Church Street Recreation Center and is just minutes from Main Street.
According to humankinetics.com, “recreation is an activity that people engage in during their free time, that people enjoy, and that people recognize as having socially redeeming values.” Recreational pursuits are a means by which to balance our lives and refresh ourselves from our work and duties. People have “long used recreation programs and services to produce socially desirable outcomes, such as the wise use of free time, physical fitness and positive youth development.” Moorestonians are fortunate to live in a community that provides organized recreation programs to “meet a variety of physical, psychological and social needs has led to recreation playing a role as a social instrument for well-being and, in some cases, change.”
