World War II Veterans who reside in Cherry Hill will be honored on Wednesday, May 20 at the Cherry Hill Public Library. This event will begin at 10 a.m. and will include a brunch catered by Short Hills Restaurant & Deli of Cherry Hill. Senator James Beach, whose father is a WWII veteran, and Cherry Hill Mayor Chuck Cahn will be the guest speakers.
Sponsors of this event are the Cherry Hill Public Library, American Legion Post 372 of Cherry Hill and the Jewish War Veterans Post 126 of Cherry Hill and is being done in conjunction with the library’s project to video interview Cherry Hill veterans and the township’s Memorial Day event.
Tom Brokaw in 1998 wrote, “It is, I believe, the greatest generation any society has ever produced.” He argued that these men and women fought not for fame and recognition, but because it was the “right thing to do.”
So many of these men and women volunteered to join the armed forces at the young age of 18, 19 and 20 and have now come to be in their 90’s. Therefore it is the “right thing to do” to honor them for their service.
