S.T.E.M. donates 10 trees for Moorestown and State Arbor Day

STEM (Save the Environment of Moorestown) has donated $1,500 for ten trees to help with the Friday, April 24 Arbor Day planting project at Wesley Bishop Park on 1248 North Church Street in Moorestown. Outgoing STEM president Kathy Huffman and treasurer Mark Pensiero presented the $1,500 check to John Gibson, chairman of the volunteer Moorestown Tree Planting and Preservation Committee, at STEM’s Annual Meeting on March 28 at the Moorestown Library.

The MTPP Committee is partnering with the Moorestown Garden Club, Moorestown Improvement Association, and the NJ State Forestry Services (Community Forestry Program) to host the New Jersey State Arbor Day Event. Moorestown was chosen to celebrate Sustainable Forestry Management in recognition of its 25th year as a Tree City USA.

The goal is for over 200 volunteers to plant 50–100 trees (2–2 1/2” caliper) at the 22-acre park named after Wesley J. Bishop, Jr. who died aboard the U.S.S, Arizona during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The park includes multi-use fields for soccer, football, lacrosse, field hockey, baseball fields, playgrounds and restroom facilities.

Donations and volunteers are needed! The event starts at 8 a.m. at the park; tools will be provided. Please make checks payable to the Township of Moorestown, marked for Arbor Day 2015. Mail to Moorestown Tree Committee, 601 East Third Street, Moorestown, N.J. 08057. Questions? Email [email protected].
