Haddonfield hosts “Comedy Night with Taylor Mason” for UrbanPromise

A night of laughter, fun and music will be coming to Haddonfield this weekend, all to spread awareness and help a good cause.

UrbanPromise, a non-profit organization helping Camden youth, will present an all-ages Comedy Night with Taylor Mason, taking place at First Presbyterian Church of Haddonfield, 20 Kings Highway East, on Sunday, April 26. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m.

“Come to enjoy yourself, laugh together with family and friends, and maybe come away with a want to serve and get more involved in an under-sourced community so close to us. Or be inspired to serve somewhere else,” said Jennifer Giordano, community relations director for UrbanPromise.

Haddonfield was chosen to host the event because of its strong commitment to UrbanPromise, both with volunteering as well as donations. Comedy Night with Taylor Mason will raise awareness of UrbanPromise’s ministries serving children locally in Camden and around the world in Malawi and Uganda, Africa.

“What we do is we want to hold events for families to come and learn more about UrbanPromise, Camden and International. We raise awareness for that as well as give the opportunity for people to give,” Giordano said.

Admission is free, however there will be an opportunity to donate during the evening. The event was decided to be free, not only as a thank you to the Haddonfield community, but to open it to all people and give them an opportunity to learn more about UrbanPromise.

“We wanted to open it up to the most people. The giving part of it is from someone’s desire to be a part and make a difference in these at-risk communities,” Giordano said.

From Second City Theater to Disney Line to Carnegie Hall, award-winning comedian and ventriloquist Mason has headlined at every major comedy club across the country. His performances include a hilarious mix of ventriloquism, comedy and music with a family-friendly approach appropriate for all ages.

“They’ll have a great time with Taylor Mason. He has traveled nationwide with his ventriloquism. He really is funny.

“Last year was my first year hosting this event with him, as he has done it before for UrbanPromise, and I can say, yes he is really funny. He is a good time for all,” Giordano said.

In addition, there will be an opportunity to sponsor children in UrbanPromise’s after-school programs and summer camps. These programs provide opportunities for children to improve their academic performance develop necessary life skills, create positive relationships with caring adults, explore the arts and nurture their faith within a safe and stimulating environment.

“Help us sponsor a child in our after-school programs and summer camps, domestically and internationally. Most of our after-school programs keep our kids in at-risk cities from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and help with homework, Bible study, guidance, healthy snacks and ultimately keeping them safe. That is where we are focusing on in after-school programs,” Giordano said.

Giordano hopes those who come to the event not only enjoy themselves, but also learn more about UrbanPromise and Camden and feel encouraged to help.

“I hope they feel happy and feel inspired. I hope they learn something new about a community that is always portrayed in such poor light and that they see the beautiful, happy faces of children,” Giordano said.
