Garden State Chorale holding spring pops concert in Cherry Hill on May 9

On Saturday May 9, the Garden State Chorale will be presenting its annual spring pops concert. Afternoon and evening performances will take place at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church on Route 70 in Cherry Hill, located adjacent to Ponzio’s Diner.

Now in its 84th year, the Chorale includes singers from throughout South Jersey, and is under the direction of Robert Frederick. This year’s program, “American Tapestry,” features a unique tune-filled journey through the history of exclusively American music. Selections will highlight various American genres from spiritual gospel to fiddle, from ragtime to jazz, from “big band” swing to rock-and-roll, as well as some classic and modern patriotic anthems. The concert also features medleys showcasing the work of legendary American composers like Stephen Foster, George and Ira Gershwin, and Johnny Mercer.

Proceeds from the concert help fund the Chorale’s annual scholarship program, which awards $2500 to a South Jersey high school senior pursuing his or her college education in vocal studies. The 2015 scholarship recipient will also perform during the concert.

Tickets are available at an advanced-sale donation price of $12 adults, $9 seniors, and $6 students. Please contact John Khanlian at [email protected], (856) 304–2775 or (856) 234–8439 to reserve tickets.
