The Camden County Freeholder Board’s Department of Public Works will begin emergency road work on Kings Highway in Haddonfield tomorrow. The roadway will be milled and repaved from the border of Cherry Hill to Haddonfield High School. In addition, bridge improvements will also take place on the bridge carrying Kings Highway over the PATCO line.
In total, $1.5 million of paving has been allocated for the reconstruction of county roads prior to the spring construction season. The last two winters have brought historic weather systems through the state that have undermined roadways creating the need for this work.
“The harsh winter has made it necessary for us to mill and overlay a section of Kings Highway in Haddonfield instead of trying to patch holes in the pavement,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County DPW. “This is one of several of emergent repairs across the county in anticipation of our annual capital campaign this summer.”
Bridge repairs are also necessary as the county’s overall infrastructure is assessed on an annual basis for routine maintenance and repair. The work over the PATCO line will last until the end of the week, but will not create a closure on the busy thoroughfare.
Potholes can create safety hazards, so Leonard urges motorists to report any pothole they observe on Camden County roads.
“We need motorists to become engaged in this effort to make Camden County a better place to live and drive throughout our 1,200 lane miles of highway,” Leonard said. “Over the next month we ask motorists to be aware of our work crews and give yourselves extra time to reach your destinations.”
Camden County is aggressive about locating and repairing potholes on all county maintained roads. The Freeholder Board asks residents to report road hazards they encounter to the Camden County Public Works Hotline (856) 566–2980. The number is answered by a live operator 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
