On Saturday, Feb. 21, Tabernacle Township School District held their 25th Jump Rope for Heart event. For two hours, one hundred and forty students in grades one through four jumped rope in teams of six students to raise money for the American Heart Association. It has always been held on a Saturday morning to encourage parents to get involved as Team Leaders, jumpers and registration helpers. Beth Manning, JRFH Coordinator for the past fifteen years, credits the parents for doing so much work.
“Without our dedicated volunteers and PTA support, I don’t know if we would be as successful as we have been,” Manning said. “We have the support of the staff and administration too, so it is a whole community event.”
This year’s total money raised for the AHA is not final, but Manning reports the total should be over $14,000.
For the past three years, Tabernacle has been the highest fundraising school in Burlington County, and they hope to repeat that honor.
Through JRFH, the students are being more active and taking ownership of their health. They also learn the lesson of fundraising and helping others.
