More than 50 historic and entertaining works of cartoon and comic art will be on display at the Cherry Hill Public Library’s main reading room through March 31. The artwork and related artifacts are from the private collection of popular culture historian and award-winning graphic designer, Richard Greene. The exhibit is set to coincide and complement the library’s third annual Comic Con on Saturday, Feb. 28.
Among the rarities being displayed are an original Superman daily strip from 1941, drawn by creator Joe Shuster, animation art by Disney legend Marc Davis and Pogo artist Walt Kelly, comic book pages by Eric Battle (Batman), Bill Griffith (Zippy), Frank Thorne (Red Sonja), gag panels by Virgil Partch (Big George), Shannon Wheeler (The New Yorker), and political cartoons by Jerry Doyle, Tony Auth and Nate Collier. The range of material, in both subject and technique, offers an entertaining and educational experience of these important art forms.
