Cherry Hill is once again partnering with the AARP to offer township seniors free tax-preparation services through AprilĀ 14.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday, AARP Tax Aide volunteers will be at Town Hall to assist residents ages 55 and up in preparing their 2014 state and federal tax returns, as well as Homestead Benefit Credit and Property Tax Reimbursement forms.
No appointments are necessary. Visitors will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.
āPreparing your tax return can be complicated and time-consuming, and hiring an accountant can be expensive, especially for seniors living on fixed incomes,ā said Mayor Chuck Cahn. āIām proud that we can once again provide residents with this valuable service at noĀ cost.ā
The AARP and its dedicated volunteers have helped Cherry Hill seniors prepare their annual tax returns for free for more than a decade. Thousands of residents have received assistance, including more than 250 who took advantage of the service inĀ 2014.
Nationally, the AARP estimates that it has helped nearly 50 million low- and middle-income Americans since the programās inception inĀ 1968.
All tax-help sessions will take place in the N. John Amato Council Chambers in the Cherry Hill Township Municipal Building, 820 Mercer Street. Electronic filing and direct deposit services will be available to help expedite seniorsā returns. However, complex returns such as those involving businesses, rental income, multiple capital gains, will not be prepared through thisĀ service.
Residents should remember to bring a copy of their 2013 return, as well as all relevant tax statements, receipts and forms; their Social Security card or SSA-1099; and their PTR form, if one was received in theĀ mail.
