As a storm with the potential to drop up to three inches of snow tonight approaches, the Camden County Department of Public Works is preparing for a forthcoming winter storm event. All snow districts will be covered in anticipation of the third snowfall of the season.
“We will have trucks loaded tomorrow with product and will be prepared for a forecasted mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain during the overnight hours,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works. “The department will be working, keeping an eye on roadway conditions and monitoring weather forecasts as we get closer to snow fall.”
A coastal storm system will come into the county tomorrow night with moderate snow developing from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. There is a chance of one to three inches of accumulation for Camden County and temperatures will be in the low 30s with 4 to 9 mile per hour winds out of the southwest. Early Saturday morning we are expecting pockets of freezing rain and precipitation ending as light snow when the storm comes to a conclusion later in the afternoon hours.
At the public works complex in Lindenwold, more than 70 pieces of equipment stand ready to keep county roadways passable and motorists moving. When the weather becomes treacherous personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts, as needed, to salt and plow 1,200 lane miles of roadway across the county.
“As always, when the weather turns hazardous we recommend that motorists remain cautious and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations,” Leonard said. “Anyone on the roadways during these times should be prepared to encounter adverse road conditions. In addition, please be conscious of DPW vehicles on the roadways as they work to treat clear our highway system. Motorists should always stay at least six car lengths behind our trucks during a winter weather event.”
