At the Moorestown Library, parents and children came out to celebrate the end of the holiday season and 2014 with stories about gingerbread people, a gingerbread puppet craft and a visit from the gingerbread man himself. However, it wasn’t all about gingerbread stories and crafts, there was talk of the past year as well as the New Year.
Gabby Rockell, 5, was excited to share that she started kindergarten this year and really liked school so far.
“I have a great teacher,” Gabby said.
“I like my teacher, too,” said her sister Rosie, 8.
Both of the girls also talked about their New Year’s resolutions. Rosie wanted to try to keep her room clean while Gabby wished to make new friends. Unfortunately for Rosie and Gabby, two of their friends are moving away soon.
Rosie expressed her excitement to stay up for New Year’s Eve. She said she got to do it last year, but this year Gabby gets to join as well. However, Rosie said with a giggle that she was doubtful her sister could stay up that late.
Rosie and Gabby’s mom, Deb, said one her favorite things to happen in 2014 was going to the Kentucky Derby. She had never gone before and said it was “a bucket list thing.” She even dressed up and wore a hat for the occasion.
“My New Year’s resolution is to read more books,” Deb said.
Sharon Coffman said with a laugh that she would like to try to leave her kids with a sitter. Coffman, a stay-at-home mother of three, spends her time with her children almost 24/7, leaving no real time for her to relax.
“It would be nice to get some alone time,” Coffman said.
In 2015, Coffman is looking forward to the summer. She can’t wait to open the pool and spend time there in the warm weather.
Her boys, Justin, 7, and Jeremy, 5, shared their favorite things to happen in 2014. Justin said he was excited that he is allowed to play video games during the week now.
“First, we got to do it only when we were good. Then we got to do it on the weekends. Then someone said we should get to play three times on the weekdays, and it is the best thing ever,” Justin said.
Jeremy spoke about a scooter he received for Christmas at his grandmother’s house. There is a black pedal and “flames that come out of the back,” he said.
For their resolutions, Justin said he wants to put together Lego sets, apparently “a million Lego sets.” Jeremy wants to jump on the pogo stick, a feat that can be hard for sure.
Everyone, from kids to adults, was looking forward to and had dreams for the New Year, both big and small.
Hopefully, 2015 will bring those wishful resolutions to reality for all.
