Donald G. Jackson at the age of 83 died peacefully at home with family on Oct. 17. He was a long-time resident of Haddonfield and Waterville Valley, NH.
Don attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia where he met and married his wife Jeanne. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp at Camp Lejeune as an illustrator for the Naval Medical Field Reserve Laboratory. He was an Art Director for the NW Ayer advertising agency in Philadelphia and Chicago from 1985 through 1971, returning to Philadelphia to become an Art Director for the Consumer Products Division of Glaxo Smith Kline Pharmaceutical Company until 1989.
As a freelance graphic designer and illustrator, Don gave generously his time and talent to local schools, clubs, businesses and the Borough of Haddonfield. His artwork can be seen throughout the town on the parking signs and PATCO site map. He was the art director and graphic designer on the committees for the Dinosaur Sculpture and the town’s First Night. Don was a member of the 65 Club, the Pick-Up Band and the Markeim Art Center, where his pen and ink drawings and prints have been shown.
Don and his family enjoyed spending many winters and summers in the little town of Water Valley, N.H. in his beloved White Mountains. He was devoted on the arts and loved going to concerts, the theater and museums. An avid sports fan, he never tired of rooting for his Eagles and Phillies.
Ever the artist, Don continued to paint and draw, always observing and able to capture the moment, the people, the place and all of the beauty that life had to offer. Don will be fondly remembered for his strong, positive attitude, his great creative mind and sense of humor, and his gentle and kind spirit.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Jeanne (Binkley), sons Brian and Time, daughter-in-law Carolyn and grandchildren Darby and Karla. A private celebration of Don’s life took place in the Haddonfield United Methodist Cemetery on his birthday, Oct. 25, where a beautiful tree was planted in his memory.
