The Medford Arts Center will host three poetry evenings during the fall of 2014.
First up will be featured reader Penny Harter on Wednesday evening, Sept. 10. The evening will begin with a mini poetry workshop at 7 p.m. led by Dr. Sharlene DeMartini and will conclude with an open mic session after a break for refreshments. All area poets are invited to bring a work to read.
Harter has been published widely in poetry journals and anthologies. Her 22 books and chapbooks include “The Resonance Around Us” (2013); “One Bowl”, a prize-winning e-chapbook of haibun (2012), “Recycling Starlight” (2010) “The Beastie Book”, an illustrated alphabeastiary (2009) and the “Night Marsh” (2008).
On Wednesday, Nov. 5, Lisa Sewell will be featured reader. She will present some of her poems after a half-hour mini poetry workshop. As always, there will be an open mic and refreshments will be served.
There is no charge to attend these poetry evenings, which are held at the Medford Arts Center on North Main Street in Medford. Preregistration is not required.
The MAC’s seventh annual poetry contest will open on Sept. 15. It is open to all area poets. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, Nov. 5. Poets may bring their works to the arts center or mail them to MAC, P. O. Box 745, Medford, NJ 08055. Cash awards will be presented on Wednesday evening, Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the MAC. Winning poets will read their entries and refreshments will be served.
