The Dr. James Still Historic Site and Education Center, a project of the Medford Historical Society, is partnering with South Jersey Music Education Partnership to host the first annual Pinelands Jazz Festival on Saturday, Sept. 13. Visitors to the 18 acre site at 209 and 211 Church Road, Medford will find non-stop musical performances from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., food vendors, craft vendors, supervised activities and crafts for children, and even a dog run in one of the pastures. This is a family friendly event. The cost for admission is $5 per visitor. Nearby parking is available for free.
Performances will be offered by a number of popular groups lending their support, including Kym Still, Larry Barbee Trio with Vince Giardina, Katie Eagleson and the Lenny Pierro Band, David Dzubinski Trio, the Kelli Campbell Trio and a featured performance at 1 p.m. by Paula Johns, Clarence Watson, and Bill Puskey. Dave Bermingham and the M-Town Jazz Jam will lead off the day with several other professional and student musicians joining in between the main stage sets from the “Wood Shed”, the secondary stage. The music will never stop.
Proceeds from this event will be shared equally by the Dr. James Still Education Center, launching its second year of special programs and events with the Pinelands Jazz Festival, and the familiar South Jersey Music Education Partnership Scholarship Fund. SJMEP awarded 49 music scholarships to students this past year. The Dr. James Still Center, in fulfilling its mission to preserve the legacy of Dr. James Still and the community he called “home”, enjoys partnerships with Medford Board of Education, Winslow Township High School, Burlington County College and a number of area community groups. Visit www.facebook.com/drjamesstill to learn more about the Dr. James Still Center. Neither group receives any dedicated private or public funding, and each functions as non-profit with all volunteer support.
Vendors and sponsorships are currently being sought. Limited space is still available for food and craft, retail and service vendors at a fee of $75 and $35 respectively. More details may be found at www.pinelandsjazz.com or by contacting volunteers at [email protected].
