Mayor’s Message: Township thrilled with successful Independence Day Celebration

Hurricane Arthur threatened to spoil our Independence Day Celebration. Though he tried his best, he did not live up to his rainy expectations.

The Evesham Celebrations Foundation, the township, our fire-rescue and our police department organized and ensured a smoothly-run Independence Day Celebration from the Mayor’s Cup 5k to the fireworks at Cherokee High School.

In 2007, it was clear to me Evesham Township was lacking the true sense of community it has come to embrace seven years later. There was no parade and fireworks were not on July 4. There was also no indication from the previous administration these luxuries would ever be part of Evesham’s fabric.

With that in mind, I co-founded the Evesham Celebrations Foundation with additional influential community members, providing Evesham and the surrounding area with exceptional events.

This year, the 5k, bike parade, Independence Day Parade and the fireworks were spectacular. I am proud to be the leader of this town on such a memorable day.

I must take this time to thank our fearless ECF committee for carefully considering adjusting the times to run the day smoothly. The day in its entirety was a hit.

Evesham was the only July 4 fireworks display in the area. Families, friends and neighbors all left the event with the feeling of patriotism and smiles on their faces.

I would also like to extend a sincere thank you to NBC’s The Voice finalist Christina Grimmie for her appearance prior to the fireworks. We are happy for your continued success and are glad you joined us for such a special hometown occasion. I would also like to thank Christina’s brother Mark, her cousin Nick and Thea for organizing the appearance.

Though one of the biggest events in our town has concluded, it is not the end of great celebrations along Main Street. On Sept. 27, crafters, food vendors and local businesses will line Main Street to welcome the fall season during the 28th annual Harvest Fest.

Residents and visitors will have the opportunity to stroll, eat and shop while visiting our Main Street section of town, validating its vitality, encouraging commerce all while promoting healthy economic growth.

We hope you join us on Sept. 27 for another great event.

Until then, visit www.eveshamcelebrations.org for more Harvest Fest information.
