The artwork of Kingsway Learning Center’s special needs elementary students was the centerpiece of the 3nd Annual “Art with Sprinkles” event on March 27. As the name indicates, ice cream sundaes added a tasty treat to all the fun.
This family-fun event raises funds for the school’s elementary and pre-school programs for students 3 to 14 years of age with multiple learning and developmental challenges.
Bonnie Block, teacher assistant and art instructor, guided the creation of this year’s gallery of student artwork, which ranged in theme from snowmen and snowflakes to welcoming spring, flowers and birds.
“Children and artwork, especially their artwork, is my passion in life,” Block said.
In 2008, Block painted murals on the walls of the main floor corridors at Kingsway, depicting scenes from classic children’s books. Six years later, these murals, which also include the work of students, continue to instill a sense of wonder to all who enter the school.
