Moorestown police warn residents of popular phone scam

Moorestown police want residents to be aware of increasing incidents of an ongoing phone scam that often targets elderly residents. The scammer will call saying that they are a friend or relative requesting money be electronically transferred under various emergency pretenses, such as they are in jail and need bail, they are out of the country and lost their passport, or they are on vacation and lost their wallet. The loss from these scammers can normally be avoided by calling the actual relative or friend the scammer may claim to be, and confirming that they are in fact not the person who called. Please make friends and relatives aware of this scam.
