Camden County preparing for another snowstorm

With weather conditions aligning into a powerful Nor’easter capable of dumping in excess of a foot of precipitation on our region, the Freeholder Board will have all hands on deck to battle the arriving snow and sleet.

“We have trucks loaded with product and will start pretreating all roadways in advance of this storm,” said Freeholder Ian Leonard, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works. “We will be working around the clock, keeping an eye on roadway conditions and monitoring weather forecasts.”

The latest forecast obtained by Camden County is anticipating a Nor’easter to take shape Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The major coastal storm is expected to start as snow with enough accumulation to impede the morning rush hour. After daybreak, the arrival of warmer air could bring a wintery mix of sleet and freezing rain. If this changeover does not occur, more than a foot of snow is not out of the question. A strong coastal low Thursday evening will bring more steady snow with 25 to 40 mile per hour wind gusts out of the north.

At the public works complex in Lindenwold, more than 70 pieces of equipment stand ready to keep county roadways passable and motorists moving. When the weather becomes treacherous personnel will be dispatched to 12 winter maintenance districts to address salt and plow 400 miles of roadways across the county.

“As always, when the weather turns hazardous we recommend that motorists remain cautious and give themselves extra time to reach their destinations,” Leonard said. “Anyone on the roadways during these times should be prepared to encounter slick or icy road conditions.”
