The Camden County Office of Emergency Management has acquired a 6×6 high-wheeled emergency response vehicle.

“This truck will provide our first responders with great flexibility during large-scale emergencies and natural disasters,” said Freeholder Scot McCray, liaison to the Camden County OEM. “The vehicle can be utilized in areas where the terrain makes access a challenge such as forest fires or missing persons in remote wooded areas.”

The 1991 military surplus cargo truck, weighing two and a half tons and sitting nine feet tall, was provided to the county at no cost by the Federal General Services Administration.

“The vehicle can also be equipped to assist with our snow removal efforts, or can be used to evacuate residents during major storms or natural disasters,” McCray said. “This is a great asset that will provide us with options we did not immediately have at our disposal.”

The emergency response vehicle is housed at the Camden County Department of Public Safety complex in Lindenwold and can be quickly deployed anywhere in the county. It will also be made available to surrounding jurisdictions requiring its capabilities.

“The Camden County OEM regularly plans and drills for all types of emergencies or disaster situations that may arise,” McCray said. “The truck is yet another resource that will assist them in providing an exceptional and rapid response in times of crisis.”
